My body feels young but my mind is very old.
So what do you say?
You can't give me the dreams that are mine anyway.
Half The World Away."
Thinking about the Noel Gallagher show last week. I bought Brent tickets for Christmas, and I have to say, it was amazing. We sat in the balcony (perfect view) and then proceeded to sing as loud as we can:
"Don't look BAAACK in anger, I heard you SAYYY!"
He played all the best new songs, and all the best Oasis songs. "Little By Little", "If I Had A Gun", "What A Life" and "Importance Of Being Idle" were rockin'. Beautiful acoustic ballads too, like the usually-only-fans-get-it song "Talk Tonight". I have to say that the Oasis fan-favorite "Half The World Away" was easily my favorite of the night. It's a song I fiddle with every time I have an acoustic in my hands. And I got to see the original singer/songwriter himself perform it. Awesome. I probably did the *clap, clap* louder than anyone else.
I don't go to shows often, but when I do, it's usually a huge deal, personally. I saw Portishead with Brent last October (their first show back in Chicago in 12 YEARS) and they've been one of my favorite bands for ages. I've always found it stupid and a waste of money to see a band or artist that you "sort of" enjoy.
If I'm going to see an artist, I'm going to ENJOY it.
Makes me want to have a light show. It really does add to the atmosphere, doesn't it?
There was no screwing around on stage. I hate bands that do that. Like 90% of bands in Chicago, who shall remain nameless. ( ...is "indie folk" dead yet?)
All in all, it made me want to be a better performer, just like Portishead did 6 Months ago. Although, I don't think I could handle the massive contact high Beth Gibbons most likely got from that audience (hell, every audience....they call it "Trip Hop", for Christ's sake)
I hope it doesn't take me another 6 months to see another great show.
